As technology changes and the economy changes, so does land use. Once that hustle and bustle of downtown districts have been plagued with realty signs and tumbleweeds as businesses seek the trendy hot spots of new developed areas. So is there a way to have our cake and eat it to?
There is something magical about the idea of revitalizing a downtown, the eclectic mix of retail and residential buildings towering over busy streets. Central Junior High School is located at the 200 block of Queen Street and has been sitting vacant since 1986. McKissick Properties saw the potential in this space and this community, they explored adaptive reuse solutions to introduce a new type of user to repurposed this space.
Central Junior High School property will now be transformed into a “Live, Work, Learn” hub and Brechbill and Helman Construction Company has been selected as the Construction Manager. The original 1908 High School footprint will be reconfigured into the Rose Rent Loft which will consist of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom loft-style apartments. The property renovations will also include 9000 sf of office space and additional square footage for classroom, seminar spaces and play area. Let’s see how this living, walkable community can come back to life.
